Way to overshare on the 'i'm not a sweaty person' comment ;-)

I know I, personally, sweat more when I have ingested a lot of crap foods - fatty foods, beer, etc. Sweat is my body's way of getting the crap out, and I feel like I sweat 10x more when I've been mistreating my stomach.

Better out than in, that's what I always say!!

Good post! It is very easy to try and turn ones martial art workouts into fitness workouts. If that is the aim then great, but if one wants to improve as a martial artist then one must think about each technqiue carfeully, performing them slow and relaxed for the majority of training time in order to program them into ones instinctive responses.

I'd also have to say that working really hard is one of the only ways I can think of of building what people usually call 'fighting spirit'.

Oh, and Matt, my name is Roberto :)

Berto works for me though.

Thanks Rodney, as a karateka I try to learn as much as possible from taiji and aikido people. That relaxation is a critical concept to martial effectiveness.

I definitely get why tai-chi-ers can build up a sweat. That is a lot of focus and body control there. if I had more time, tai chi would definitely get integrated into my personal training.
