I'll definitely let you know--I only get to do blacksmithing when friends of mine with forges have the time to let me, since I live in an apartment, and the way I am envisioning forging the manji sai I'm sure it will be difficult so we will have to see how things go :)

That's awesome Noah, I'm sure you'll come to love it. If you ever decide to produce the manji sai in more quantity (or nunti in general) let me know, it is difficult to find good producers of them and I'm sure we will find interested customers.

Hey Matt, I just wanted to post in here again to say that I am finally getting the chance to learn how to use the nunti! I've learned the first few steps of a kata, and I have to say that it is a very versatile weapon and I love working with it so far. I am going to be doing some blacksmithing again in a couple weeks and I'm thinking of forging a manji sai to mount on a shaft and make a nunti for myself

The nunti has been amazing to me since I first learned about it. At first, I didn't like it very much because it seemed to me like a halberd without a blade (as a halberd has similar capabilities), but it grew on me over time as I learned to use sai and bo. I'm not as good with sai, but I got to learn the ways you can strike and manipulate opponents with them, and when coupled with my knowledge of bo work, it made the nunti all the more enticing. One of these days I'll have to get one and see if someone will teach me the proper technique to use it. Thanks for the post!

Great post. I'm only recently learning how truly diverse the Okinawan kobudo arsenal truly is. There's so much more than bo, kama, sai and nunchaku.

The nunti is a fascinating weapon. I hope you'll do something on the tinbei rochin sometime.
