Good self defense is to be prepared, in many ways it must be true to say that a perpetrator chooses its victim. And how does a perpetrator choose? Probably weighting what can be obtained and the cost of potentially getting caught or meeting resistance.

While I highly respect Funakoshi sensei I am not convinced that ‘Karate ni Sente Nashi’ can always work. If you, for any reason, fail to block o neutralize the first attack you mind end up in lots of troubles.
So while I consider a nice sprint run a good self defence I also advocate a pre-emptive hit and run if you feel to be in life threatening situation.

I highly appreciate and I am in strong agreement with the second part of the post with very clever, practical suggestions.

Good post. gotta give up the ego. Sometimes it takes thirty years to let go, and make up a 'throwdown' wallet like you've suggested and not entertain thoughts of dishing out 'street justice' like you say. nice.

Anyone who steals my purse is going to get a bunch of business cards, multiple pictuers of my kids, some gum, and then a wide array of lipgloss. I NEVER have any money on me. EVER.

Great post!

I so admire Funakoshi! His autobiography is the best!

I also like the changing habits to prevent major loss in a theft.

Good post!
