I have been studying Uechi-ryu for eight years. It has its roots in Fujian as do the other Okinawan styles. It emphasizes Sanchin, although different than what you see in Goju or Shito ryu. It is heavily influenced by the white crane also.I have been studying also the syllabus of kata put together by Master Alexander,Hakutsuru crane kenpo karate because of the connection of Gokenki to Kanbun Uechi. Kanbun Uechi was a student of Priest by the name of Shu Shi Wa as was Gokenki. It has also been said that Gokenki was a student Of Uechi in Nansoe where Kanbun opened his first school of Pang gai noon. I can really feel the connection as I continue to practice and learn both sets of kata. Thank you Master Alexander for you research!

Fantastic article on Shihan Alexander. I have had the opportunity to train with him several times over the past couple of years, and you captured his personality beautifully. If you ever want a fantastic training opportunity go to his summer camp. It is amazing.
